All About Perfume
Do's and Dont's of Perfume by Roberto Sedycias
Since time immemorial, perfume has been an object of fascination to both men and women. We love to smell good, and perfume with its captivating smell helps us to entice others, especially those of the opposite sex. Perfume is meant to enhance our overall personality. As a result of detailed research, scientists have concluded that no two human beings smell alike.
Similarly, the smell of perfume also differs from person to person. While some prefer a stronger smell, others prefer milder perfume. Apart from being a luxurious item, perfume has become a necessity for today's man or woman. With the growing demand, perfume manufacturers have become more innovative and as a result there are many brands of perfumes available in different fragrances. What's more, some perfume manufacturers even claim to customize perfume as per their client's body aroma!
Perfume is available in different sizes and price ranges. While some are very costly, there is also discount perfume - cheap perfume available to meet the requirements of many consumers. The smell and quality of ingredients used in a perfume usually determines its price. Of course, leading brands do have their own influence while deciding the cost of their perfume product.
As a wide range of perfume varieties are available, choosing a perfect perfume is a difficult task. if your perfume selection is correct, it will surely make you smell fresh and people will be attracted to you, but on the other hand if your selection goes wrong, it can makes your admirers flee away too! Hence, it's very important to choose a perfume whose fragrance complements your skin type and the natural aroma of your body.
The scent of your perfume should be subtle enough that others would love to stay around you, and on the other hand shouldn't be too strong to make others cringe with constant sneezes! While choosing a suitable perfume, it's a good idea to try spraying a sample directly onto your skin to know if its suits you or not. It is suggested not to try more than three fragrances at one time otherwise your nose will lose its ability to tell the difference.
After you are satisfied with the perfume's fragrance, don't be in a hurry to buy it, unless you already know what you are looking for. Try on a sample of the perfume and leave it on for a day. This will show you if the perfume suits your body, or if you develop any possible allergies or a headache.
Now some "do's" and "don'ts" of perfume use:
Don't keep an already opened perfume open for long. Once opened it should be used, otherwise the fragrance will fade. Also, direct exposure to sunlight or extreme temperatures can change the scent of your perfume, hence perfumes should always be kept in a cool, dry place away from direct light.
Too much overdoing of perfume application won't make you smell any better! Hence stop spraying extra perfume over your garments, neck, and even hair. Also it's not a good idea to put fragrance directly on furs or fabrics as it might stain them. You want to please yourself and those who are closest to you with your fragrance. Anything beyond that is considered as unnecessary.
The perfect time to apply perfume is right after a shower, as then the pores of your body are open and will soak up the scent of the perfume. Those who have dry skin should apply more perfume.
It's a good idea to change perfume according to the season. Stronger perfumes are required for winter as the perfume scent gets reduced with the dip in temperature. You can dab your perfume in usual places such as on the wrist, the inside of the elbow, neck or even the back of the knees. However, restrain from applying it behind the ears as it might blend with the skin secretions and create a bad smell.
PERFUME by Sam Turner
Perfume is made up of alcohol combined with a fixative, essential oils or chemical scents. Cologne is essentially a diluted version of perfume. Perfumes generally contain up to 30% essential oils whilst colognes only contain 1 -2% oils.
It is important to remember that perfume reacts with each person's body scent to create a unique aroma. That's why the same cologne can smell so differently on different people. This is why you should try perfume on your own skin before buying otherwise you may be disappointed. A good rule of thumb is to never test more than three perfumes at a time.
The fragrance of perfume attaches itself to you and your memories. When you smell the perfume of a close friend or relative, you automatically think of the person. Although you can't see their features, their essence is captured in the lingering fragrance of their perfume.
PERFUME TYPES
(I) NATURAL PERFUME
Many plants exude a natural fragrance, which comes from the part of the plant that has been broken down to its essential oils and compounds. Several parts of a plant may be used to extract the scent for a natural perfume. Flowers and blossoms are obvious plant parts used in making natural perfume, but leaves, twigs, roots, bulbs, seeds, fruit, bark, wood, resin, and even lichens can be used as well. Other organic perfume fragrances, such as musk, civet, castoreum, ambergris, and honeycomb, come from animals.
(II) SYNTHETIC PERFUME
Creating perfumes from organic substances, such as plant and animal scents, is an expensive process that results in very pricey perfume. The use of chemical compounds to create synthetic perfumes allows designers to develop similar scents for a fraction of the cost, making perfumes affordable and favorite fragrances readily available to everyone in the world.
Synthetic aromas in perfumes normally aren't found in the environment, but are common in many of today's perfumes. Synthetics come from combinations of some of the chemicals found in petroleum and pine. One such example is the pale yellow liquid ionone, with its woody, dry, fruity, raspberry, and violet aromas.
BUYING PERFUME
Here are some tips on how you can choose perfumes:
(i) Perfume (Fragrance)
You are buying perfume for the lasting smell. So this is the most important factor to consider. The label is meant to jump out at the target audience. So if there are any names that capture your attention, you may then proceed to sample the perfume.
(ii) Perfume Pricing
Finally, tackle the issue of perfume pricing. If the fragrance smells right, and the bottle looks right, check if the perfume pricing is within your budget. If it's not, you may wish to consider waiting for promotional seasons. High quality perfume is normally associated with a heftier price tag. That's because lots of resources have been spent on development, research, and marketing. Just a few drops from a high quality bottle of perfume can last you for the whole day. So don't go for the cheapest bottle and expect to get the best. It's simply not realistic.
